Postcards From The Edge

Via Negativa

Hello Sweetness,

Gratitude is good and wonderful and life-giving and absolutely necessary. But too much positivity and love and light can be a little gag-inducing.

Some days the soul and the sky are a little more subdued. And I find myself here today.

I don’t need to spend all my time on high, comfortable as I am in the middle ground.

And so it’s a very good day for cleaning up and clearing away the unnecessary and unhelpful. A good day for choosing what to let go of. Deciding what not to do. Sweeping up the little tasks and putting away what’s been left behind.

Via negativa.

Yours sincerely,

A.

Detail of Mondrian's 1935 Composition (No.1) Gray-Red graces the cover of today's handwritten postcard from me to you. We all admire the modern geometric and clean forms of his work. But we forget that these were oil paintings created between the two World Wars.
Surrounded by the chaos of the world, Mondrian created technically-astounding, simplified works that focussed on balance and harmony. He was creating a new visual language that he believed could express values and aesthetics that could be applied beyond painting to all aspects of life. He was looking for stillness and harmony.
